Scott Birrell formed Nutmeg Resolutions, LLC, for the purpose of offering arbitration and mediation services as an efficient and cost-effective alternative to the traditional litigation model.

A core tenet of Scott’s personal philosophy and approach is the strong belief that parties in disagreement with each other - whatever the nature of their dispute - should do their best to achieve a mutually acceptable outcome through dialog with a mediator or by resolving their disputes through binding arbitration with a neutral third arbiter.

Based upon his many years of trying cases in the judicial system and negotiating complex settlements in the corporate world, Scott has observed that under most circumstances, alternative dispute resolution is vastly preferable to litigation with its associated stressors, expense, and uncertain outcome.

Through mediation and, to a lesser degree, arbitration, parties are in control of their own destiny. Rarely are both parties completely happy with an outcome, but that is not the goal; rather, the emphasis is on resolving differences through settlement.
